Ruby: Hello, everyone, and
welcome to another edition of Ruby Reviews! Tonight, instead of just
studying up and doing a full report style deal, I figured I would put
my interviewing talents to the test, as interviewer for Kat's Foxy
Boxing, and interview the very lovely and incredibly talented Summer
Holly Madison, aka Blink, aka Sub Pink Mutt.
Holly: AKA Mommy, in a few
months.
Ruby: So you're going with
mommy?
Holly: Yes. I don't quite think
I'm ready for mom or mother or mama quite yet, and even though I do
have a mommy...I think she'd
understand I'd like to be called one myself.
Ruby: Fair
enough. I have to say though, you look great.
Holly: Thank
you.
Ruby: How
many months has it been?
Holly: Five
and a half. Marie's due date is set for around...mid July.
Ruby: Is
that still hopeful thinking? Because I know when you first announced
it, is was a little too early to know...
Holly: No,
we know for certain now. Its a girl.
Ruby:
Congratulations.
Holly: Thank
you. I'm really looking forward to the experiences after helping
Miss. Chris and Miss. Sasha bring up theirs and getting the frequent
opportunities to watch after Miss. Roxi and Miss. Keira's child. It
was amazing.
Ruby: Hoping
for the best for you in that regard. But how are your other ventures
going? How's your webcam series going?
Holly:
It's going great. We're still getting a few hundred viewers every
night when we're on. I mean, it's not tremendous numbers and Ariel
and I knew the audience would taper off as soon as I had to put a
pause on my interactions. I mean, there's things I can
do but there's a lot I can't do now.
Ruby: Do you
miss it?
Holly:
I...do. But not in the sense that it's a permanent injury keeping me
from doing the things I love. As I said it's just a pause and our
fans know that. Once Marie comes into our lives and a few months more
have passed and my body can actually sustain the types of things
Ariel likes to do to me...we'll resume our show per normal course.
Right now it's mostly Ariel and Charlie.
Ruby: The
energetic pup.
Holly: Yes,
she is incredibly energetic. Every night she wants to try something
new.
Ruby: So
speaking of new and your series, has all this downtime given you a
chance to think of your own ideas?
Holly: In a
way, but ideas I'm just running through Ariel first. So I can't
really say much here aside from wanting to go to the AVN's this year.
Just get out there and make contacts. I mean...I'm a porn star now.
Ariel, Charlie, and myself that's what we are and I want to meet
others in that world. Make some new friends, maybe some new guests.
We've already been invited to a convention in Miami in May, so the
three of us will definitely try and get our own booth there. A lot of
our fans have been wanting to meet with us so we're hoping this will
give them a perfect chance.
Ruby: So you
call yourself a porn star now,
Holly: Yes.
Ruby: Was it
therefore a shock to get the call from your old wrestling promotion
saying you were going into the Hall of Fame?
Holly: It
was, it really was. I mean, the last few months of my career were
really...nowhere near like the rest.
Ruby: In
what way?
Holly: I had
met Kat again. Since the first time I met her I kinda had this
lingering feeling to get into what she was doing. Long as I've known
her she's always been a dominatrix. So when we met up the second time
for my wedding we swapped numbers. She said she'd give me a call and
I said I'd always be available.
Ruby: How
long until she called?
Holly:
About...a couple years. She was dating someone and wanted me to come
and help her out. I said okay, and next thing I know I'm standing
naked in a hotel room with a ballgag in my mouth feeding out lengths
of rope. (Laughs) It
was...it was something else. And that was the beginning of it.
Ruby: And
how were your first experiences?
Holly:
Different. Interesting. I couldn't say good or bad, they were...they
just were. Pretty soon though I started to get a little more daring
with it. Kat worked as my Mistress behind the scenes but with Pet
coming into the company, she had a reason to play more in front of
FIW cameras and I really wanted in.
Ruby: How
did everyone take to it?
Holly:
I...think they all hated it. I think they saw what I was doing as
being a disservice to what I had accomplished. I mean, since then
people have broken all ties with me.
Ruby: How'd
that all make you feel?
Holly:
Not the best, but I had something else I was starting to enjoy. It
didn't bother me to be caught on camera tied up on a giant St.
Andrews Cross with a ballgag in my mouth and Kat whipping me with a
flogger. It was a rush, I was finally doing what I wanted. Though
when I left shortly after there wasn't much fanfair, people have to
actually research back to figure out what my last match was, and I
had only ever stepped back into the ring one time since then. So I
assumed the company itself also wanted little to do with me. So when
I got that call it felt all the more special. Because I still respect
everything I did. I don't do what I do now to damage my name, I do
what I do now because I enjoy it very much.
Ruby:
Interesting you would say it was all you doing something you wanted
because in your life you've never really had those kinds of
opportunities.
Holly:
No, and honestly I'm glad Ariel isn't here because she hates
hearing about my childhood. But it's true. Growing up I had very
little say in what I was doing, in fact I had no say. Looking back on
it now I can say it was an abusive childhood.
Ruby: Back
then you didn't feel that way?
Holly: It
was all I knew. I cooked, I cleaned, I even painted the outside of
the house one summer. I never went out, never made friends, I was,
um, home schooled by my mother.
Ruby: In
what way?
Holly: She
taught me how to cook, clean, and things like that. I'm lucky I had
my brother because, at times, unbeknownst to my parents he would show
me his homework so I could get something more of an education.
Ruby: So you
were really hoping he did good.
Holly:
Yes. (Laughs) But my
parents were very strict. I still remember one time I got distracted
while sweeping my father taped
the broom to my hands because I had to remember what I was there for.
Ruby: For
how long?
Holly: He
didn't remove the tape for a couple days.
Ruby: And
that was normal to you?
Holly:
I...didn't know what else there was. I was raised to believe and I
truly did believe that a girls position in life was to do the things
I was doing.
Ruby: When
did it all change?
Holly: The
first time was the moment I mentioned above with the broom taping. I
was caught watching this super hero, Power Rangers type show and I
remember thinking that's what I wanted to do. I wanted to save
people, help people, do whatever I could for people I didn't even
know. You know, maybe it was the whole “life lessons” that were
engrained into me kicking in a different avenue, but that's what I
wanted. But another time I saw my brother watching some wrestling. I
only listened, I had learned my lesson about watching anything, so I
just listened and all these people cheering, all these wondrous,
heroic promos. I knew I couldn't be a real super hero, but I knew I
could make a difference there.
Ruby: So
what did you do then?
Holly: I
told my parents.
Ruby: What
did they say?
Holly: That
I would fail. That I'd fail miserably and come home crying. But,
ultimately, they said I could go. Although, I really think it was
more them wanting me to fail just to see how brutal life was outside
of the house. That way I'd never want to leave again.
Ruby: And
how did you do?
Holly: I
failed, just like they said. I failed hard. Never got a footing,
didn't win any matches. By my third loss I was ready to go home. I
even called and told them they were right and how I'd never leave
again and all that. They said they had already arranged a marriage
for me and...I said “alright”.
Ruby:
Arranged a marriage?
Holly: I
think one of my dad's friends. So I'd marry someone about twice my
age.
Ruby: And
you were okay with it?
Holly: I
wasn't okay, I just felt that was the next step in my life. You know,
I failed my dream, failed myself, if I'm going to be useful to
someone I might as well be a use to my parents. After the phonecall
though, like I think it was that night actually, I was found by a
woman named Emily. She had seen the show, was a wrestler herself, and
felt she needed a student. Of everyone she saw that night she chose
me.
Ruby:
Because of your athleticism?
Holly: At
first I thought that but later, like just a few years later, she told
me the only reason she picked me up was because I was so pathetic
when she saw me after the show...I'd listen to and accept everything
she told me. And I did. I...I really did. I learned from her, mostly
while being her practice dummy. She'd compete in some FIW matches and
after she won she'd let me attempt a move. I'd hit it then she'd have
me raise her arm in victory. Like the spotlight was always to be on
her.
Ruby: So it
was another abusive relationship?
Holly: Very
much so. Again, at the time, I defended her against everyone. I'd
even get into arguments with Lady Marie because she'd say how she's
always going to hurt me, she's never going to let me shine any
brighter than she has and I'd always tell her that I'm learning
something. She wasn't beating me, she was correcting me. Lady Marie
never liked that, she never liked Emily.
Ruby: How
are your feelings toward Emily looking back on all this? Even your
parents?
Holly: For
one; I technically have no parents. They disowned me when I went back
into wrestling. They told me I no longer had a home there, which is
funny and I'll get to it in a bit, but they said they were disgusted
with me and that if I was going to become a failure I was going to be
that on my own.
Ruby:
But you made out pretty well for yourself. World champion, Hall of
Famer, perhaps the greatest tag team competitor in that company's
history.
Holly: Lady
Marie and I had an interesting run for the titles. It took about a
year or so of infighting between us until we managed to finally focus
up our attention on gaining some glory. When we did it didn't last
very long, just a little over a month.
Ruby: You
held the titles two more times after that with a variety of partners.
Holly: The
second reign I...think started with me injured and Lady Marie had
just found out she was pregnant with Jayme. So another competitor by
the name of Ignacio stepped up for myself first and then Lady Marie
later. Then when he disappeared, El Valiente came in and we
became Los Luchas for a little while until finally dropping the
belts.
Ruby: An
amazing feat to say the least. Winning the title with your original
partner, holding it with another, and then continuing the reign with
a third. All different styles and personalities you had to adjust to.
Holly:
Right, but here's the thing. When you look back...Lady Marie and I
weren't the most successful tag team. Our reigns by just ourselves
were always so short. Combined the two of us probably only held the
titles for two months.
Ruby: And
then you split shortly after.
Holly: Sort
of. It was Lady Marie was going to go single and I was going to tag
with the newest Bad Girl, Terri Golde. Unfortunately, another injury
sidelined me and Terri came to be a tag team competitor so Lady Marie
teamed with her until I came back. Though by then I had already won
the Grand Prix and was being pushed myself. Though I think it was
more Steele Media, our own bosses, getting behind me and Lady Marie's
tendency to do more rants than anything that had FIW want to give me
the push first.
Ruby: What's
the Grand Prix?
Holly: The
Grand Prix is a day long tournament to determine a number one
contender to the any title they wanted. It was one of those any time
you want the shot, you go and make it. I was kind of fresh in my
singles run so I challenged for the second tier title, the Undisputed
International Championship. A real mouthful when you have the speech
impediment that forces you to break up bigger words.
Ruby: You
can get through it now though.
Holly:
Before it was just Un-dis-pu...ted until Emily just said “Call it
the UIC.” (Laughs)
Ruby: So you
challenge for that...
Holly: And I
win. I win the title in a triple threat with Billy Walker and Super
Kamen Ranger becoming the first competitor in three years to
successfully cash in my Grand Prix win.
Ruby:
Really?
Holly: Yes.
I held the title for just over seven months and it was the first step
to building up some confidence in myself. When I first won it though,
I went to Lady Marie hoping she wasn't jealous or envious or anything
of the sort. She was okay with it, she said her time would come and
that I needed now to focus on mine.
Ruby: It did
take a while for her time to come though.
Holly: It
did but she's finally got a title to call her own and she's rocking
it. I don't think she's disgracing it any and it'll definitely be one
of those reigns that the next champion will be compared to heavily.
Ruby: Well,
let's get back to your first UIC reign because it was a real stepping
stone for you.
Holly: It
was indeed. After...about a few months or so of holding the title,
and remember it's the second tier title, the general manager
announces that he's going to retire the Dual Crown title. That's the
world title of that company.
Ruby: With
no intention of putting anything in its place?
Holly: None.
So, quite literally overnight, I go from championing the mid carders
to being the face of the entire company. Back then I had real
problems with anxiety so you can imagine how I felt that night.
Ruby:
Scared, I bet.
Holly:
Petrified! I felt like I was going to have a heart attack! But, I had
Lady Marie by my side and she basically told me to calm down, that if
I was going to be the face of the company then I really shouldn't
start by having a heart attack! (Laughs) But I ended up doing
what I could with it. It was an interesting situation.
Ruby: But
one that really set you up because your next title came only a few
months after.
Holly:
Right. I had earned a shot at the Dual Crown title against Mungrel
sometime after I lost the UIC. I lost that one and later found
out...there was very little faith in me to being champion in the
first place.
Ruby: What
do you mean?
Holly: I
mean they thought I didn't act like a champion. I was always
apologizing, clearing out of peoples way, I was timid, nervous. I
mean I flew clear across the country just to give someone a
hug. That's the kind of person I was. I mean, I'd still fly out to
hug someone still.
Ruby: But
you held the company on your back already.
Holly: I
know and that's what angered Lady Marie so much. When she found all
that out she made a B-line straight for the offices and I don't
really know what was said...but I got the call the next morning “Hey,
you're getting a second shot.”
Ruby: Wow.
How did that make you feel?
Holly: At
first? A little uncertain. I mean, I had my shot and I felt it was
time for another person. I mean, it wasn't like I had earned a
rematch. And then there was a tournament that I was skipping over as
well to determine another number one contender to join me.
Ruby: To
freshen things up.
Holly: I
believe so, yes. But the match happened, it was triple cage. So that
didn't help the nerves. (Laughs) But...I won. I dropped
through a cage ceiling but I ultimately came out on top. And while no
one's ever told me this? I like to think I set another record that
night and one that was never broken ever since.
Ruby: What's
that?
Holly: At
five-one, a hundred and ten or so pounds...I like to think I was the
smallest champion that company ever had. I mean, I could hold the
belt up from the end of the strap and it'd stand nearly as tall as
me.
Ruby: That's
amazing. But that bump you took...
Holly: I
think...it was what ultimately cut my career short. I mean I was the
champion, I didn't want to just leave, so I just kept going. I just
kept going and going and going. All told I held that belt for two
hundred and thirty-two days. From someone who wasn't seen as being a
potential champion I nearly broke records with that reign. I mean I
wasn't the most defending of champions in that time, but I like to
think I turned a few heads with that run.
Ruby: But
that wasn't the end of it.
Holly: No.
Ruby:
Because just a few months after that you're winning the UIC again.
Holly: Yes.
Not as impressive a run but...still fun.
Ruby: So
when you left Full Intensity Wrestling...
Holly: There
wasn't any real fanfair. When Lady Marie and I left, there weren't
any hurt feelings or good bye speeches. We just quietly made our way
out. I think, well I know in Lady Marie's case it's just she's not a
sentimental type of person. I mean, if they made her go out there and
thank the fans for their time then...she'd do it.
Ruby: But
you didn't get the time?
Holly: I
didn't want to. At that point I was actually starting things with Kat
and figured no one wanted to hear from me. So I just wanted to leave
as quietly as possible. I mean, I did go back to cut that interview,
which I was very proud of. Glad I got the opportunity for that. I'm
glad it was viewed so many times and I really hope my words inspired
those in the back.
Ruby: As
great a competitor as you were I'm sure you touched a few hearts. But
that wasn't the end of your wrestling career.
Holly: No.
Kat actually got a call, this was after her run in Girl Power
Wrestling ended, and she was invited into doing this group thing. She
was going to be Strife in the Four Horsewomen with Talon, Emma, and
Joanna. So she went up there and I sometimes came with her. You know,
pink haired girl on a leash next to Candi. Don't cross my Mistress or
I'll hurt you. (Laughs) But then it was Kat who suggested I
get back in touch with Lady Marie. She was training Zahara at the
time and given Kat and Zahara were dating at the time it wasn't very
hard.
Ruby: How
did she take to your lifestyle? Because watching her train Zahara she
didn't seem very fond of Kat.
Holly: Well,
she had been there throughout my time with Emily so she didn't want
to see me in another, what she took as being, abusive relationship. I
mean I was calling her Mistress, she was calling me Holly or
slave...it would seem bad to an outsider, but Lady Marie took it
especially hard. So she wasn't coming anywhere near what we had
planned.
Ruby: What
was that?
Holly: An
off shoot tag team from the Horsewomen, one where Kat, as Strife,
would effectively call the shots. So you can see why Lady Marie
didn't want anything there.
Ruby: So,
about your career in Visionaries of Wrestling, you started off then
as a singles competitor.
Holly: Yes.
Not very successful, but I wasn't going to let it stress me out any.
I was there to have fun at that point. To get public about my
new...hobby, it was at the time. But when they put Kat and I together
as a team...we did things that turned a lot of people off but, at the
same time, turned me way on.
Ruby: There
were definitely some memorable promos. Was there anyone who
personally gave you heat for your antics?
Holly:
Surprisingly no. But I still know people weren't into seeing the way
Kat and I operated.
Ruby: How
so?
Holly: Just
the interactions. I mean, the way Kat treated me on camera tugging me
down by a leash, making me lick her boots, wearing a ballgag or
whatever to the ring...it seemed to separate Kat out a lot from the
group and, by association, myself. But, we know that once you get to
know Kat that just isn't the case. She's a loving wife,
tremendous mother, safety and security are her top priorities when it
comes to clients. I mean, even I don't even know who she sees and the
only times I did know was when she would call me in to assist.
Ruby: She
runs her own training ground as well.
Holly: Where
Ariel graduated. Now she's taking on clients herself.
Ruby: How's
her business?
Holly:
There's no Ariel Empire yet...but we'll get there. (Laughs)
Ruby: So
you're retired now,
Holly: Yes.
Ruby: Onto
other things. Is there anything you regret not doing looking back at
your career?
Holly:
Actually, there is. A team of Billy Walker and Rurik Krychek, the
Good Men, we never got to face them. They were, I mean all told their
record was never broken, the longest reigning tag team champions
going over a year with the belts beating every team...but never the
Bad Girls.
Ruby: Bad
Girls versus the Good Men.
Holly: Just
writes itself, right? (Laughs) So I really hoped we could have
done something there. The other regret is, looking back on it, I
never truly settled the score with Emily on how she treated me our
entire time together. That woman just vanished from my life entirely
and all I have to show for her being with me are a few scars and some
scary memories.
Ruby: So how
are you feeling now?
Holly:
Physically? I'm getting the aches every now and again in my back, but
it's for better reasons these days. But I'm living with friends, I'm
living close to friends. I mean Miss. Chris, Miss. Sasha have been so
amazing to us. Plus having Roxi and Keira so close by and having
their trust in me. Jen-Jen and Stacy are both amazing people and I'm
glad that any of us could get into the car and be by one another
after a single phone call. And actually, Jen-Jen's the one who
convinced both Ariel and myself to stay in the Miami area.
Ruby:
Really?
Holly: Yeah.
One of the things I was eluding to earlier was how Ariel now owns
my old family home. My parents, or really ex-parents died about five
years ago, and my brother's been looking after the place for a while.
Like I said, Ariel hates my childhood and hates that that
structure of my absoulte oppression is still up. So, as a Christmas
present, she bought it from my brother and we're going down
sometime...I think in the fall now, to tear it down.
Ruby: Oh my.
Holly: And
initially our thoughts were to rebuild, start something pleasant out
of something so horrid. She wanted my time in New Zealand to be
happy, cause that's where I grew up so all I have to think back on
are my parents. Plus...even when we were dating, Ariel and I never
had a place to ourselves. First we're living with Lady Marie and
doing the whole Bad Girls reality series thing, then we're moving in
with Kat to enter that sort of life. Then after that we're with Miss.
Chris and Miss. Sasha so while we have a home on their
property, we've never actually owned our own place to live and
that's what we started talking about.
Ruby: Did
you tell anyone about this?
Holly: No.
As a matter of fact, Jen-Jen was the first person I pitched this all
to. I mean, I didn't want to tell anyone until Ariel and I absolutely
knew what we wanted. So this is probably the first time Miss. Chris
and Miss. Sasha are even hearing about this. But she reminded me that
this is where my family is, this is where my friends are.
Ruby: So she
convinced you to stay?
Holly: She
did and I'm happier now about that. It's one of the reasons both she
and Stacy were chosen as godparents. Because I trust them, I trust
that they know what's best for others before themselves.
Ruby: Glad
you're sticking around then. Though, to wrap things up, anything you
want to advertise?
Holly: Sub
Pink Mutt. We're on our own site now, so we're not being cramped with
our timeslot. We're on every single night doing what we can to keep
our fans entertained.
Ruby: Do you
think those you competed with watch?
Holly:
Oh...I know some do. But those are the ones who got to know me after
I got into this life. So it's probably not as surprising to them to
see me with a tail plug or a ball gag. Everyone else...they just know
me as the timid, mousey girl out of small town Lawrence, New Zealand
who rose up to become champion.
Ruby: I
think after a single show...
Holly: Yeah.
Or just me saying I've got nine piercings now and in public...you can
only see five of them. (Laughs)
Ruby: That
would definitely do it. Well, it's been great talking with you,
Holly, I'm sure you're going to make a wonderful mother and I hope
the best for you in your Sub Pink Mutt series.
Holly: Thank
you.
