She exits the embrace slowly, the sound of their parting lips echoing
throughout the room. She glances through fluttered lashes toward her
fellow experimenters dark eyes as they dart about her face looking
for any sort of reaction good or bad. Soon, the silence becomes too
much for her and the dark haired girl dives right in with her
curiosity.
“Well?”
She asks hoping it'll be enough to nudge the feelings of her friend
forward not realizing what the sudden push may do to her. But then,
she's always been used to having things her way and this will
certainly not be an exception. Still, she's willing to give this at
least a shred of patience as she keeps her hands on the other girls
arms tightening in her fingers and rubbing her thumbs over her biceps
anticipating a response.
“Definitely not like Archie.”
She finally says with a tiny semblance of a smile, which is more than
enough to craft one upon the raven haired girls own features. She
wants to do it again but settles for a tight hug.
“I knew you'd enjoy it!”
She says feeling a heavy weight throw itself from her shoulders and
collide to the ground by where she's crossed her ankles.
“So,” The blond begins, her hands diverting down loosely over her
companions waist. “What do we do now? I know there's whole other
stages, but...”
Her cheeks turn a crimson red the more she looks away from her
friend. The thought of them going another step forward both excites
and frightens her at the same time. Taking in this reaction, the
other licks her ruby painted lips and reaches a hand from in behind
her friends head to in front so she can cup her chin turning it so
she can look back at her.
“Nothing, if that's what you want.”
The blond just laughs nervously a little when she hears that, her
eyes diverting downward momentarily.
“We've been friends for so long, Ronnie, this isn't the sort of
thing I can ignore us doing. I can't just kiss you and pretend
nothing happened tomorrow.”
“That's true.” The raven haired girl responds moving her hand
from the others chin to the side of her neck prompting the blond to
arch up an eyebrow.
“But that was your plan, wasn't it? When you asked me over.”
“I had other things.” Veronica answers back feeling a little
accused, although it's not exactly something she can argue right now.
“For instance I needed your suggestion on which seven bathing suits
to bring on my trip, Betty.”
“Trip?” Betty stares back at Veronica slowly piecing the puzzle
together within her head. When the last one falls into place, she
lets out a groan and stands up from the bed and away from her friend.
“I should've known this would turn into one of your tricks.”
“Trick?”
“You brought me over to finally kiss you and-”
“Finally?” Veronica interrupts now being the one with the arched
brow. Betty just hangs her mouth open wishing she hadn't said it like
that and tries to bring things back to where they were before her
slip up hoping Veronica will ignore it.
“Nevermind, just...why would you do this just before leaving? How
long are you even going?”
“Well, that's the other thing I wanted to tell you.” Veronica
says coming up from the bed herself hoping to take her friends hands
but Betty is still too hurt at the moment to unfold her arms letting
her have them. “I was hoping you could come with me. It's a thirty
day cruise but we can extend it as long as we want.”
“Why would we want to do that?”
“You mean aside from it being a luxury liner?”
Betty twists her lip at Veronica on that one as she knew that would
be her first answer. Veronica only laughs a little before taking
Betty's hands out from by her sides gripping both tightly.
“Because we can be alone. No school, no pep rallies, no-”
“Archie?” Betty asks catching Veronica a little off guard.
“Sacrifices, I suppose, just need to be made.” She answers
attempting to be strong here. “But do you want in or not?”
Betty ushers out a lengthy sigh and ultimately surrenders with a nod
adding in a smile hoping that this trip will be fun.
“Great!” Veronica exclaims. “Now, as for the swimsuits...”
The ship leaves the dock and makes its way into the Atlantic with
those on board waving their farewells to their friends and family
staying behind. With the exception of a few others, namely Betty and
Veronica who are on their way down the corridor toward their cabin.
“Still don't understand why you wouldn't let me tell Archie we were
going on this cruise.” Betty says huffing as she carries her
luggage under her arm.
“Oh...you know how he'd get. He'd probably make this mad dash for
the boat and try and join us. Ah, here we are.”
Betty waits for Veronica to unlock
their cabin door when she looks over and spots something a little odd
to her. Not odd bad, just something she isn't used to seeing. A pair
of women pressed right up close to one another giggling before
kissing. Betty wonders if that's how she and Veronica looked a few
days prior to this and heads into the cabin.
“World's gotten a lot more open.” She says resting her luggage on
the bed.
“Hm? What do you mean?” Veronica queries back.
“Oh...nothing.” Betty lets out a sigh and looks around the room
noticing something else peculiar. “So...where's the other bed? You
said you got a doubles room, right?”
“Mmhm.” Veronica nods as Betty mumbles to herself.
“Must've been a mixup then.” She looks to Veronica who stands by
the closet hanging a few of her things up.
On the end table is an envelope and Betty goes to open it. Inside is
a note that's all typed up save for the signature of the captain and
event organizer at the bottom.
“Wow, they're pretty direct with their passengers.”
“How do you mean?” Veronica asks checking back at Betty who holds
up the note.
“It says “ladies” at the top.” Betty answers back before
looking over the note. “Though come to think of it, I haven't seen
any...”
Moments later, Veronica is chasing Betty through the boat as the
blond carries her luggage/
“Betty, wait!”
“Gay cruise, Ronnie. We're on a gay cruise!”
“Of course we are!”
Betty stops and turns back to her friend startling her.
“You KNEW?”
“Well...yeah. I got us the tickets.”
Shaking her head, Betty turns and hurries off making Veronica give
chase yet again only this time she's able to get directly in front of
her stopping her early.
“I'm sorry, it's just...here we can be alone. No one knows us here
so we can...you know, try things.”
Betty lets out a deep exhale as Veronica keeps trying.
“Look, we've already left port and won't be landing for another
couple days. If by then you want to get off we will. I'll...pay for
airfare and we'll both go home. Okay?”
She pleads hoping Betty will accept. After a bit of thinking it over,
she has a question.
“No one knows us here?”
“Absolutely not.”
Betty sighs and nods much to Veronica's delight. Enough so that she
comes in kissing Betty's cheek.
“Great! You're not going to regret this, Betty.”
“I really hope not...”
Betty says getting a certain feeling as they head down the hall
bypassing an events board where on it, it announces the live
performance of Josie and the Pussycats.
